World War 2 games really hit the spot with me even if they have been done to death, perhaps its me growing up in the 70’s and most toys were revolved around that era with action men to model soldiers, even most big war films of the 70’s were world war 2 themed etc.So when the demo of SE arrived a few months ago i was pleasantly suprised and noted it down for a future purchase, but me being a tight wad when it was released i left it until it dropped to around £15,but in between it coming out i joined lovefilm so decided to pop it on my want list.
So the game itself!,the story revolves around the end of World War 2 and the main character Karl Fairburne who is a dropped behind enemy lines to assassinate a German Major-General who knowing its all gone tits up is try to defect to the Russians.Other missions vary and you find yourself trying to rescue a german scientist’s to blowing up V2 rocket installations etc.
The action is third person and tagged onto your sniping you can use various machine guns, pistols and land mines to trip wires but the weapons are basic and no customization or upgrading which seems a waste to me,coming to the sniper rifles you have just three and they do the job fine but i couldn’t tell the difference between any of them really which to be honest you would have thought there would be an array of sniping classes and other perks.
When your about to fire your sniper rifle you have a bar and a heart on the left side which you can slow down time with the right bumper button to steady the shot and a X-ray kil cam which i really thought was a nice touch watching the bullet crunch through skulls and other body parts with eye flinching motion. What i did find a let down was the bland backdrops and textures in levels and it all looked very basic and the AI could be erratic going from soldiers having a sixth sense to standing there like a mannequin dummy.
Overall this game could have been way better in looks and level design and a wasted opportunity in my eyes, but if your looking for a 10 hour single player campaign (done on medium) and love the second world war era then its worth a rent or perhaps a tenner off ebay!.

Ok firstly let me say how overlooked this game was at the time!,it was released in 2009 and was overshadowed by far bigger household named 360 games and thats why it probably didn’t appear on my radar. To be honest the genre is not every-bodies cup of tea as it takes its roots from such games as Diablo and Skyrim Rpg’s and its no pick up blazing action game, you need to invest time and give the game a chance to open up and level your character up before you really get sucked into the game world.
Welcome to the world of Ancaria – The game takes place over 2000 years before the original Sacred (Sacred never made it onto consoles and was a PC only title),and the story revolves around a magic source called T-Energy(a blue glowing liquid) which was discovered by Elves untill it started to mutate and causing shit loads of baddies roaming the countryside. In the game there are six classes with a light or dark campaign to be chosen but certain classes can only do one or tuther!.The side quests (and there are over 500) can be a bit repetitive but your that engrossed in keeping yourself alive you don’t have to time to notice lol, there are weapon sets to collect and you can buy and sell stuff with the various merchants roaming around the world, also throw in a blacksmith to upgrade weapons and a runemaster to make your powers even stronger!.I played this co-op with my good friend Norti Rascal and we weighed in over 70 hours and ended up still only doing over 250 out of 500 side quests, but there was a big glitch at the end as it glitch-ed so Norti didn’t get the achievement and missed the cut scene which was pretty crap for him but he kept his temper and refrained from throwing the 360 out the window lol.
Overall this has to be one of the best titles ive played on a console but like ive said previous you have to be into that genre of game, and ive loved these types of game games going back to Balders Gate and Diablo – i must also add that doing the game co-op is the way to play it as you can share your stash and equipment with your partner or partners (up to four can co-op) and it has a way that one person can’t pick up all the best stuff after an enemy is dispatched and each character gets its own share of goodies which is a brilliant way to implement it.Ive stated that we did over 70 hours and i can seriously say that time flew by!,but the game is not without its negatives and characters get stuck on scenery and a few graphically glitches can be found,it was also a ball ache setting a room up and inviting each other in as it threw up this server has timed out and other errors but we stuck to it and persevered.
So to wrap it up i will highly recommend this title with its colorful scenery and caves to explore, brilliant sound effect and music, controls are spot on and co-op is immense.
