Let me just say this film has to be one of the most absorbing feel good trips Ive encountered in a long time!,the sign of a good film is when you don’t want it to end and this one i certainly didn’t want to end.
Wes Anderson the director casts a spell over you with this enchanting coming of age story, the story is set in the mid 60’s and begins with Sam and Suzy becoming pen-pals (Sam is an orphan and Suzy comes from a dysfunctional family)and after many letters to each other they decide to run away together. The film is set on New Penzance Island off the New England Coast with it sprawling woods and meadows and the cinematography is breathtaking and accompanied with quirky classical music and really makes you feel like your in the era. After running away the two love birds set up camp and decide to call it Moonrise Kingdom but if they thought there idyllic adventure would go unnoticed then they were mistaken as the hunt is on to find them by the local police chief and a platoon of boy scouts along with Suzi’s family by land, sea, and air.
The cast which is really surprising taking the genre of the film includes – Edward Norton,Bill Murray,Bruce Willis who all in there own right are fantastic but its the two stars of the film newcomers Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman who really shine.
I really enjoyed this film and will put it up there with my all time great films.
Verdict – 10/10.

I’m a big fan of Asian films and always fancied ISTD but never got around to grabbing it until that is i spotted it on lovefilm streaming, let me just start by saying the level of violence in this films puts many of its genre to shame! and the roller coaster ride you take is heart pumping. The film centers around a psychopath who kills, tortures women and even children for there meat!!,yes what a complete nutjob and the police have tried to track him down and catch him for a long time without sucess.
We catch the story as Jang Kyung-chul (the psycho) murders a young women stuck in a broke down car but this woman is the fiancé Soo-hyun (a top secret agent) who tracks down and begins to hunt him,the film reminds me of a cross between Dirty Harry/HostelTexas Chainsaw Massacre and the main players in this film really do nail it and fill you with suspense and horror. Some parts are a bit Asian kung-fu cinema but that doesn’t sidetrack you from the genre of the film in hand and will have you flinching as bones break and flesh gets ripped.
Overall i can say that this is the best Horror/Drama ive seen for a long time and don’t be put off by the subtitles as i no alot of people don’t do subtitled foreign films haha.
Verdict – 9/10.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire!,sounds first hand to be some cheesy B movie from the 80’s..well thats what i was expecting to be honest, but how wrong i was!.So lets look at the story – based on the book by Seth Grahame-Smith begins with a young Abe witnessing the death of his mother by a vampire, fast forward to Abe grown up and he stumbles upon Henry Sturgess (Dominic Cooper of Mama Mia and Devils double fame)who over a drink pursued`s Abe to do his dirty work and slay shed loads of vampires but with a catch of only killing the ones Henry picks for him!.In the process of this he meets and marries his wife Mary Todd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and ventures into politics and ends up of course as the 16th american president!,the film culminates with the battle of Gettysburg and basically a fight between good and evil on the battlefield.
The acting can be said as pretty good and a few laughs are had in-between vampire hunting and no expense is spared with the Special effects which are the bulk of the film, what did sour my mouth though was the over use of slo mo in action scenes as to many big budget action films today seem to go down this path these days!.That said if you are looking for a kick ass action flick then this film won’t disappoint with its heart pounding chase scenes to the pumping soundtrack.I was surprised how much i ended up liking this film and if i had the choice to watch it again i wouldn’t turn my nose up!
Verdict – 8/10.
