Microsoft has confirmed that it will begin rolling out the autumn 2012 Xbox 360 dashboard update today.
To ensure a “stable release”, the update will initially be restricted to approximately three million consoles worldwide, with additional consoles being added “over the course of the next couple of weeks”.
“Don’t panic if you don’t see an immediate update,” asked Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson, “just keep checking back in.”
The dashboard update includes a reworked user interface, Internet Explorer integration, Xbox Music, and a new ‘Pinning’ feature which lets users pin their favourite content to the home screen.
Support for Microsoft’s second screen technology, Xbox SmartGlass, is also included in the update, but won’t be available until Windows 8 launches on October 26.
The SmartGlass app will let users interact with their Xbox 360 via their tablet, PC and smartphone, and include additional control methods for dashboard navigation and Internet Explorer control, such as text input, scrolling and pinch and zoom.
